Currency
Japan remains more cash-oriented than many visitors expect; carry some yen, and know that 7-Eleven ATMs reliably accept foreign cards.
Connectivity
Airport SIM/eSIM counters and pocket Wi-Fi rental are both easy to arrange on arrival at Narita or Haneda, or in advance online.
Power and plugs
Japan uses Type A/B plugs at 100V — US-style plugs fit, but voltage-sensitive devices from elsewhere may need a converter.
Emergency numbers
110 for police, 119 for fire or ambulance — English-language support is available on these lines.
Pharmacies and common medication
