Analytics

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand which pages are useful and which aren't. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect standard internet log information and visitor behaviour information in an anonymised form. We do not use this data to identify individual visitors, and we don't sell it. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Affiliate links and how we make money

Awesome Tokyo is free to use and doesn't run display advertising. Instead, some links on this site are affiliate links: if you click through and sign up for a service or make a purchase, we may earn a small commission. This never costs you anything extra — the price you pay is the same whether you use our link or go directly to the provider.

Specifically, this site currently participates in:

• Wise — we link to Wise, a travel money and multi-currency card service, using our own referral link. We personally use Wise for travel and only recommend it because we find it genuinely useful.
• Amazon Associates — some links to travel gear and accessories on Amazon include an affiliate tag. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

Affiliate links are marked with rel="sponsored" in the page code, and any dedicated affiliate promotions on the site are labelled as such. We only link to products and services we'd genuinely suggest to a friend — the recommendation isn't for sale, only the referral.
